Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
